Swim Team

Swim. Grow. Belong.

The YMCA of Alaska Swim Team provides youth with a supportive, structured environment to build strong swimming skills, confidence, and teamwork. Designed for swimmers who are ready to move beyond swim lessons, our program focuses on stroke development, endurance, sportsmanship, and goal-setting—all while keeping the fun and community spirit of the Y at the center.

Our experienced coaches work with swimmers to improve technique and performance at an age-appropriate pace. Whether your child is interested in competitive swimming or simply wants to strengthen their skills and stay active, the Y Swim Team offers a positive pathway for growth. As part of the YMCA, our program emphasizes character development, respect, responsibility, and belonging—values that extend far beyond the pool.

Team Details

The YMCA of Alaska Swim Team is open to youth who meet basic swim readiness requirements and are comfortable swimming multiple lengths of the pool. Practices are held on a regular weekly schedule and are led by certified coaches who prioritize safety, skill progression, and encouragement.

Swimmers will work on all four competitive strokes, starts, turns, and endurance, while also learning the importance of teamwork and commitment. Opportunities to participate in local swim meets may be available depending on location and season. Our Swim Team is designed to be inclusive and supportive, welcoming swimmers at various stages of development while maintaining clear expectations for effort, respect, and positive behavior.
