Martial Arts
Focus. Respect. Strength.
YMCA of Alaska Martial Arts programs help participants build physical strength, confidence, and self-discipline in a supportive and structured environment. Designed for a range of ages and experience levels, these programs emphasize skill development, personal growth, and respect for others.
Participants learn fundamental techniques while also developing balance, coordination, and focus. YMCA instructors promote positive values such as perseverance, self-control, and respect—skills that extend beyond the mat into everyday life.
Martial Arts programs support healthy living by combining physical activity with mental focus and character development. Whether participants are new to martial arts or continuing their training, the YMCA provides a welcoming space to learn, grow, and progress at an individual pace.

Our curriculum includes self-defense against armed and unarmed, single and multiple assailants. Pressure points, kicks and strikes to the body are used as distractions that enable us to effectively apply joint locks and throws.
We teach and practice Seibukan Jujutsu in positive and non-competitive manner that promotes self confidence, self protection and self development. The principles and philosophy of this art can be used in all aspects of day to day life.
