Before School Care

Start the Day Strong

YMCA of Alaska Before School programs provide a safe, structured, and welcoming environment for children before the school day begins. Designed to support working families, our program offers dependable care where children can start their mornings feeling calm, confident, and ready to learn. Caring, trained staff guide activities that encourage positive social interaction, independence, and responsibility.

Mornings at the Y include a balance of quiet activities, active play, and opportunities for connection with peers. Children are supported as they prepare for the school day, building routines that help them transition smoothly into the classroom. Rooted in youth development and guided by the Y’s values, Before School Care helps children build confidence while giving families peace of mind knowing their child is in a supportive, engaging environment.

What to Expect

Before School Care is designed for school-age children and operates during scheduled morning hours on school days. Programs may be offered at select locations and schools, depending on community needs and partnerships. Activities are age-appropriate and focus on creating a positive start to the day through supervised play, social interaction, and routine-building.

The YMCA of Alaska prioritizes safety, consistency, and inclusion in all child care programs. Families can expect clear communication, dependable schedules, and staff who are committed to supporting each child’s well-being. Before School Care pairs well with After School programs, offering families flexible, full-day support that aligns with the school calendar and helps children thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Before School Care is available at the Mat-Su YMCA.
