Healthy Living Together
Wellness for All
At the YMCA of Alaska, health and wellness go beyond fitness. We support the whole person—spirit, mind, and body—through programs that help individuals and families build healthy habits, manage chronic conditions, and stay active at every stage of life.
Whether you’re beginning your wellness journey or seeking continued support, the Y offers welcoming spaces, knowledgeable staff, and programs designed to meet you where you are. Our approach is inclusive, compassionate, and rooted in long-term well-being—not quick fixes.
Diabetes Prevention Program
Type 2 diabetes can be life-altering—but it is often preventable. The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is a proven, evidence-based lifestyle intervention that helps individuals reduce their risk through sustainable changes in nutrition, physical activity, and daily habits.
Participants receive personalized support, practical tools, and accountability within a supportive group setting. This program has helped countless individuals improve their health, increase energy, and build confidence in managing their well-being.
Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program
Heart health matters. The YMCA Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program empowers individuals to take control of their cardiovascular health through education, tracking, and guided support.
Participants receive a blood pressure monitor for home use along with coaching and encouragement from trained YMCA staff. By learning how to monitor and understand their numbers, individuals gain confidence and practical tools to better manage their health.
LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA
A cancer diagnosis can change everything. LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is a 12-week program designed to help adult cancer survivors regain strength, endurance, and confidence after treatment.
Through small group sessions led by specially trained instructors, participants focus on rebuilding physical strength while receiving emotional support from others who understand the journey. LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA helps survivors reclaim their vitality and move forward with renewed resilience.
No One Fights Alone
Adjusting to a new diagnosis or navigating treatment can feel overwhelming—but no one should have to do it alone.
No One Fights Alone provides a supportive community for individuals facing health challenges. Through specialized classes, educational workshops, and connection with others walking similar paths, participants gain encouragement, strength, and practical tools to improve their quality of life.
At the YMCA, we believe community is a powerful part of healing.
Healthy Weight and Your Child
Healthy Weight and Your Child is an evidence-based lifestyle program designed to support children and families in building healthier habits together.
This 25-session program, delivered weekly over 6–7 months, focuses on nutrition education, physical activity, and family engagement. Children and caregivers participate together in facilitated activities, group discussions, and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.
By empowering the entire family, the program helps create sustainable, long-term lifestyle changes that promote healthier growth and overall well-being.
Supportive, Inclusive Care
From group fitness and wellness coaching to referral-based and medically supported programs, our Health & Wellness offerings are rooted in community care.
We partner with healthcare providers, support healthy aging, and provide accessible options for individuals and families across Alaska. No matter your age, ability, or experience level, you’ll find encouragement, connection, and programs designed to help you feel stronger, healthier, and more confident—inside and out.
